Custom Norms in the Kinvent App
Custom norms enable users to create, manage, and apply their own performance benchmarks inside the Kinvent App. Instead of relying solely on generic reference values, you can build standards that reflect your specific population or sport.
This feature helps physiotherapists and performance coaches replace broad “general population” norms with sport- or population-specific performance benchmarks. It allows you to add context to raw numbers, compare individuals against a relevant cohort, and clearly track progress for athletes, patients, or staff.
Why Custom Norms Matter
- Local relevance: Build benchmarks from your own athletes, teams, or patient groups.
- Better decisions: Set thresholds and return-to-play criteria that truly fit your context.
- Clear communication: Provide meaningful comparisons for staff, athletes, and patients.
- Operational control: Adjust benchmarks throughout the season or for specific injury groups or positions.
Typical use cases include:
- Clinic: ACL rehab – age/sex norms and asymmetry thresholds for return-to-sport milestones.
- Sports teams: Position-specific norms and dominant-side force/velocity targets.
- Youth academies: Age-band norms for safe progression.
- Overhead sports: Shoulder discipline norms (handball, volleyball, tennis) using key velocity metrics.
How to Create and Use Custom Norms
You can create, edit, and apply custom norms in three different ways:
- Via the Account menu
- From the Home page, tap Account in the lower-right corner.
- Select Norms Management.
- If no norms exist yet, tap Add norm (upper-right corner).
- Fill in all required fields. Each norm is linked to a single assessment and KPI.
- Tap Save norm. You can edit any created norm from the list.
- The norm is now available to be applied using the next two methods.
- Before starting an assessment (Configuration page)
- Select an assessment from the test bank or within a patient/athlete profile.
- In the configuration screen, scroll down to Use norm and activate the toggle.
- Available KPIs will appear; tap + to choose or create a new norm.
- Selected custom norms will automatically be used for all future identical assessments.
- The chosen norm value will appear in the lower part of the report for the relevant KPI.
- Directly from a Report
- Open the report of a recent or past assessment.
- Long-press on the main KPI or tap the Edit button (upper-right corner).
- A Change norm button appears in the lower-right corner of each KPI. Tap it to select, edit, or create a new norm.
