Who Am I Compared To?
The data currently available in the Kinvent App is based on healthy populations. When you provide the patient's age and gender, the app displays the corresponding reference values for that specific demographic group. The age ranges considered are:
- 18 to 30
- 31 to 40
- 41 to 50
- 51 to 60
- 61 and above
These reference ranges apply to the Grip and Bilateral Stance assessments.
For CMJ assessments, data has been collected from high-performing athletes (basketball, rugby, and soccer) — both male and female — between the ages of 18 and 32.
For K-Push and K-Pull isometric strength tests, the reference values are derived from the norms reported by McKay et al. ( 10.1212/WNL.0000000000003466 ).
How Are the Displayed Numbers Calculated?
To generate the rankings shown in the assessments, the Kinvent App uses percentile ranking. This statistical method determines where an individual stands within a population based on specific variables such as Fmax, Power, RFD, and others.
To calculate percentile rankings, data for each variable of interest is gathered from the entire database. After removing any invalid or outlier values, individuals are ordered in descending order according to their results.
Once the ranking is established, we determine the percentage of the population that falls below a specific individual. For example, if someone’s test score exceeds that of 75% of the population, their percentile rank would be 75.
Percentile ranking is a valuable tool because it allows performance comparisons against a representative population and helps identify individuals with exceptional (either high or low) results.
